Stop In For Lunch!

Perhaps one of the best kept secrets at Ashcombe is the tasty temptations served at our Country Cafe.  Each day we offer several different lunch options and 2 hot soups.  In addition, we always have a wonderful selection of sides, gourmet chips, desserts and specialty drinks.  Take a break and relax in our eating area where we offer free wifi to our visitors.

Mommy & Me Garden Craft Class:  Handprint Garden ~ Tuesday, March 11th 10am  In this fun class, each child and parent (together) will paint a beautiful garden using their handprint and seeds. This class is for children 4 years and under.  A parent or guardian must stay with the child.  Pre-registration required.  Fee:  $5.00

All About Hydrangeas ~ Tuesday, March 11th 6pm

Ashcombe’s Assistant Nursery Manager, Brandon Kuykendall will teach everything you ever wanted to know about hydrangeas including varieties, culture, care, planting and pruning.  Bring your questions!  Pre-registration required.  $15.00  

Homeschool Garden Craft Class:   Shoe Tread T-Shirt ~ Wednesday, March 12th, 1-2pm  In this fun and crafty class, the children will design beautiful t-shirts using contact paper, fabric paint and the tread from their shoes!  Please bring a sneaker or shoe with tread on bottom and wear old clothes.  Ages 5 and up. Pre-registration required. Fee: $10.00

Garden Craft Class:   Very Hairy Caterpillar Craft and Seed Starting

~ Saturday, March 15th, 9-10am  In this class, each child will make a creative caterpillar that will grow into a ‘hairy’ friend.  We will also start seeds in ice cream cones.  Please wear old clothes.  Ages 5 and up. Pre-registration required. Fee: $5.00

Homeschool Garden Craft Class:   Garden Light Switch Covers ~ Wednesday, March 19th, 1-2pm  In this class, children will make a decorative light switch cover using paints, stencils and stick-ons.  Please wear old clothes.  Ages 5 and up. Pre-registration required. Fee: $5.00  

Spring Open House ~ Saturday, March 22nd & Saturday, March 29th  Join us 

for our annual open house event.  We’ll have special displays, new gardening items, kids events and a sneak peek at new plant varieties for the upcoming season.  Pick up a complete schedule of events at the registers in late February.

Get Your Yard Ready For Spring ~ Saturday, March 22nd 1-2:30pm  

PA Certified Horticulturist Michael Larkin will show you how to get your yard ready for the new season.  Learn when and how to fertilize, how to plant and transplant trees and shrubs successfully, safe ways to deal with pests, how to create more perennials through division and spring pruning tips to help your plants grow better.  Bring your questions.  Pre-registration required.  $10.00

I think it's safe to say that we are all a little sick of winter and ready for some nice warm rays of sun.  Ahhh...the thoughts of small seedlings growing, offering us the promise of spring and a bountiful harvest in our gardens.  It's time to get started!  This is one of my favorite times of the year to dream about what I will put in my garden, where I'll plant it, what fun additions I will make to my landscape.  No better way to spend a snowy day!

Ashcombe's seeds are here with a great selection from Burpee, Lake Valley, Botanical Interests and PL Rhorer.  Onion sets, shallots and garlic bulbs are here too - just waiting to be included in your garden dream!

Learn How To Start Your Own Seeds ~ Saturday, February 8th, 10am-2pm  Stop by our Garden Supplies department between 10am and 2pm and get some great tips on starting your seeds indoors. 

Romance Author Event ~ Saturday, February 8th 12-3pm  Visit with 14 local romance authors for this romantic book-signing event!  Many books will be available for purchase and the authors will be on hand to answer questions and talk about upcoming releases. 

Adult - Simple Soap Making Workshop  - Monday, February 10th 1pm  It’s time for some valentine’s fun!  In this class, each participant will make several bars of melt and mold soaps including layered, stamped and heart shaped bars.  Pre-registration required.  $15.00

Make Perfect Pie Crusts  - Tuesday, February 11th 1pm  Just in time for George Washington’s birthday, our bakery manager will present a program on making great pie crusts.  She’ll start from scratch to make a delicious cherry pie.  Each participant will receive a small cherry pie to take home!  Pre-registration required.  $10.00

Homeschool Garden Craft Class - Sparkling Sun Catcher ~ Wednesday, February 12th 1-2pm  Enjoy some sunny sparkle with this window hanger!  In this class we’ll use beads and wire to create beautiful sun catchers.  Ages 5 and up.  Pre-registration required.  $5.00

Mommy & Me Garden Craft Class ~ Plant Pals - Tuesday, February 18th, 10am  In this fun class, we will make little plant pals with cups and decorated with eyes and decorations.  We’ll then plant them with grass seed so you can take them home and watch them grow.  This class is for children 4 years and under.  A parent or guardian must stay with the child.  Pre-registration required.  Fee:  $5.00

Homeschool Garden Craft Class: Fairy Garden Workshop ~ Wednesday, 

February 19th, 1-2pm  Each child will make their own fairy garden - includes container, plants, stone accents and 1 fairy/knight.  Please wear old clothes.  Pre-registration required.  $15.00

All About Orchids Seminar ~ Thursday, February 20th, 1pm  Learn everything you ever wanted to know about orchids in this informative seminar.  Each participant will
receive a starter orchid.  Pre-registration and payment required.  Fee:  $15.00

In this hands-on class, each participant will make and mold their own suet to take along home for the birds.  Pre-registration required.  $10.00
